Swiss-Only, Europe+, Worldwide: Which Plan Type Are You?
The one question that sorts all 177 Swiss plans
🧭 CAPTAIN'S BRIEFING: ONE QUESTION FIRST
ATTENTION, RECRUIT! Drop that price list. Every plan hunt starts with the same blunder: sorting by price first. Not on my watch.
All 177 plans on the Swiss market (July 2026) answer to one question: where does your plan work? 59 are Swiss-only. 104 pack Europe roaming. 14 cover the world.
That's the whole map. It's also the first thing MatchMyMobile asks you: the three tabs on the start page ARE these three types. Pick yours, and two thirds of the market marches politely out the door. 🚪
“Where to?”
🇨🇭 TYPE 1: SWISS-ONLY (59 PLANS)
The deal: everything you need inside Switzerland, nothing beyond it. 40 of these plans include literally zero roaming.
Why they exist: they're the cheapest road to unlimited data: the least expensive unlimited plan in the whole catalog is a Swiss-only plan at CHF 9.90 a month.
The catch: the border is a paywall. Cross it with data switched on and you're paying per-MB ad-hoc rates, or panic-buying a travel add-on at the departure gate.
You're this type if: your phone sleeps in Switzerland 350+ nights a year and your holidays run happily on hotel Wi-Fi, or you simply grab a local eSIM when you land. 🏔️
✈️ TYPE 2: EUROPE+ (104 PLANS, THE MARKET'S CENTER OF GRAVITY)
The deal: a roaming zone is baked in: typically the EU and UK, roughly 30 to 60 countries depending on the plan. You get a data bucket for the zone: anywhere from 1 GB to "unlimited" (a word with a case file of its own; see the unlimited mystery).
Mission intel! Read these two lines before you fall in love:
1. The reset rhythm. Nearly all roaming buckets refill every month, but a few must last the whole YEAR. "10 GB" can mean ten gigabytes monthly or ten for the entire year. Every plan card prints which one you're buying.
2. The country list. "Europe" is not one place: one plan's zone includes your favorite spot, another's doesn't. Tap the countries button on any card back for the exact list.
You're this type if: you cross a border more than twice a year. In Switzerland, that's most of us. 🚗
A roaming bucket comes with a calendar: most refill every month, a few must last the whole year; the card tells you which one you're buying.
🌍 TYPE 3: WORLDWIDE (15 PLANS)
The deal: roaming zones beyond Europe (the Americas, Asia and beyond), each with its own bucket, printed as its own line on the card back.
Only 15 plans play in this league. Small club, quick comparison.
One last villain to unmask while we're here: roaming is NOT international calling!
- Roaming = your phone travels abroad.
- International calls = you stand in Switzerland and dial a foreign number.
Different products, different prices, different sections of the plan card. 45 plans include international calling minutes (29 of them unlimited to their country lists). If your family lives abroad, THAT's the line to check. No Worldwide plan required. 📞
🎯 YOUR MISSION: TYPE FIRST, PRICE SECOND
Three moves and you're out of the maze:
1. Pick your type on the start page: the three tabs sort all 177 plans for you
2. Inside your type, sort by Best value: our ranking already weighs price against what's included
3. Flip the survivors: the card backs show the exact zones, buckets and reset rhythms
Frequent flyers: the Europe roaming top 10 and the worldwide roaming top 10 are already built for you.
One question, most of the market eliminated. Captain Mobile, over and out. 🫡
“Found my type!”
